James Eaton was my 5th Great Grandfather. He was born on 26 May 1794 to Ebenezer Eaton and Elizabeth Dupree. He was baptised on 20 June 1794 at Christ Church, Spitalfields, London – a church where many of my other ancestral lines have also been baptised!

His two sisters, Mary (b. 1797) and Elizabeth (b. 1796) sadly both died as infants. His mother Elizabeth died shortly before Mary died.
On 13 April 1817, he married my 5th great grandmother Ann Collins at St Andrew’s Church, Holborn. The marriage was witnessed by Jame’s grandmother Susanna Dupree and John Collins.

The couple rented a room at No.18 Lamb Street, Spitalfields up until the late 1840s, as seen in the yearly Land and Tax Records. Below is one of the Land and Tax Record for 1826.

Between 1821 and 1836, the couple had 7 children: Mary Ann, James John (1822-1874), Jane (1824-1915, my 4th great grandmother), Thomas (1825-). Emma (1829-), Charles Ebenezer (1833-1920) and Frederick (1836-).
In 1827, James was awarded Freedom of the City as his father Ebenezer was granted in 1794.

In 1841, James and Ann were living on Lamb Street with all 7 of their children and James was working as a plumber.

In 1851, James was living at 120 Bishopsgate Street with Ann and 5 of their children. A granddaughter Jane Scurr was also there at the time of the census. James was now a Master Plumber along with his sons James and Thomas.

In 1861, James and Ann were living at 5 Brunswick Place, Islington with 3 of their children: Jane, Emma and Frederick. He was now working as a Builders Clerk.

James died aged 74 on 26th May 1869 in Clerkenwell, London.
